G.hn Home Networking Standard Gains Industry and Carrier Support

The G.hn home networking standard received a boost June 15 when HomeGrid Forum signed an agreement with Broadband Forum to deliver a G.hn interoperability testing program.

The  HomeGrid Forum is a non-profit trade group promoting G.hn, a standard recently adopted by the International Telecommunication Union that aims to unify the networking of content and devices over coaxial cable, phone lines or power lines. The Broadband Forum is a consortium of approximately 200 telecommunications service providers and manufacturers worldwide.

If widely adopted, the G.hn standard is expected to reduce the cost to service providers of deploying IPTV and other advanced services—and the interoperability testing plan suggests the new standard should see broad support among manufacturers.
