The IEEE on June 29 announced a draft Smart Grid standard to address energy storage challenges in distributed power generation.
Draft standard P1547.8, which the IEEE is targeting for ratification in 2012, establishes a common technical platform for distributed resources interconnection applications.

Video services will generate more than $250 billion in revenues worldwide by 2014, according to the biannual Video Services and Subscribers report from Infonetics Research released in early June. The forecast includes revenues from cable television, IPTV and satellite video services.

Mobile VOIP users will exceed 100 million by 2012, according to a new study from Juniper Research.
“By that date mobile VOIP will be available over both 3G and WiFi networks,” said Anthony Cox, Senior Analyst at Juniper Research, in a press release announcing the study results. “We also anticipate that several more traditional operators will have joined 3UK and Verizon and developed relationships with mobile VOIP players such as Skype.”
